Spain for the second time basketball world champion

Spain is world champion in basketball for the second time. The team around NBA champion Marc Gasol of the Toronto Raptors won the final in the Chinese capital Beijing after a strong performance highly deserved with 95:75 (43:31) against Argentina.

The Spaniards won their first World Cup triumph in Japan in 2006 and Argentina are still waiting for their second gold medal. The South Americans had won the first edition of history at home in 1950.

Gasol was the second player to become NBA Champion and World Champion in the same year. Lamar Odom had achieved this for the only time so far in 2010, after his triumph in league with Los Angeles Lakers, the 39-year-old won the title in Turkey with Team USA.

The best Spaniard thrower in the one-sided final was NBA professional Ricky Rubio (Phoenix Suns) with 20 points. The Point Guard was then named the most valuable player of the tournament (MVP). Among the disappointing Argentinians, Gabriel Deck scored 24 points as top scorer.
