Poker: Swede wins record main event

Simon Brändström wins the Main Event of the EPT in Barcelona. More players than ever before take part in this event.

Simon Brändström has won the Main Event of the European Poker Tour 2019 in Barcelona.

The Swede was the chip leader at the six-player Final Table, and then second in the Heads-Up against Marton Czuczor from Hungary. Before the grand final, Brändström and Czuczor agreed on a deal that left them both out of the event with over 1.2 million euros.

Brändsröm cashed in over 1.2 million Euros

Czuczor already thought he was on the winning track with a 3:1 chip lead before Brandström finished his small descent and secured the much-acclaimed victory. For this he collected prize money of 1,290,166 euros, the heads-up defeated Czuczor should be happy about 1,253,234 euros.

“It’s nice to win the title. Barcelona is a classic stop for the EPT,” said Brändström.

Brandström made Barcelona the eleventh victory for a Swedish player in the history of EPT Main events. The Catalan metropolis seems to be totally the right place for him. At a World Tour (WPT) event in March, he won his highest prize money there with 187,700 euros until before the greatest success of his career.

Record participation for Main Event

1998 Entries provided the biggest EPT Main event in history. The total prize pool was over 9.6 million Euros.
