T1, who are best known for their League of Legends successes, are founding an Overwatch team & want to compete in the Overwatch Contenders Korea in 2020.
It is the most successful League of Legends team: SK Telecom T1 and T1, respectively. With their legendary superstar Faker, which every eSports fan has heard of at least once, and their three world championship titles, they are probably one of the most successful teams in the history of eSports. Now the organisation also wants to gain a foothold in the Overwatch Contenders.
New Star Team in the Overwatch Contenders?
With a tweet on the side of T1, the organization announced yesterday that the participation in the Overwatch Contenders is planned until 2020. This is the second league under the Overwatch League. The Overwatch Contenders construct a farming or training league for the OWL.
Currently, players are still wanted on all positions – but the prerequisite is at least the achievement of the ranking “Grandmaster” within Overwatch existing plus 1300 points. The games of the team take place exclusively in Korea, which is why it can be assumed that mainly local players are addressed.
Likely, many players who have not been lucky enough to join a Contenders team will apply. The name T1 also makes an impression, of course, and gives hope to be able to develop further as a player.
Will, the Overwatch League, follow for T1?
These first steps from T1 towards Overwatch come as a surprise to some. Since there will be no new teams in the Overwatch League in 2020, another slot for T1 is not yet available. However, this may also be long-term preparations for 2024.
How the Overwatch League will continue after 2020, and if there will be new teams, there is not known yet.
