Marcelo is known at Real Madrid for his casual and relaxed manner. Almost every time you see the Brazilian on the field, he smiles or fools around with his colleagues. But the side Marcelo has now mentioned is probably completely alien to most people.
In an interview with the sports platform “The Players’ Tribune”, Marcelo gave insights like never before in his career. The Brazilian talks about one of the most challenging periods of his entire football career: the last hours before the 2018 Champions League final against FC Liverpool.
“I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t try to panic,” said Marcelo, looking back on the last minutes in the cabin. As dramatic as Marcelo’s interview begins, as dramatic he continues, and it’s hard to imagine how the defender must have felt.
He felt suffocated, but he knew that as soon as he entered the court, everything would get better and so it happened – at least later.
