For a long time, it was quiet around the fourth part of the legendary strategy series.
After a trailer was used to revive the series in August 2017, absolute radio silence prevailed. The Age of Empires II Definitive Edition was released, but nothing was known about its successor. As part of X019, the biggest XBOX festival of the year, Microsoft has now teased big announcements for Age of Empires IV.
Does Microsoft answer the fans’ urgent questions?
Fans have had to wait more than two years to finally get a first look at the fourth part of the tradition series. So far, everyone is in the dark; after all, there is no information except the fact that the game is under development. For many fans, the selection of the historical era in which the game is set is the most important thing.
The announcement trailer allows only vague estimates. The trailer shows pictures from antiquity, from the Middle Ages to early modern times. But whether this is the setting is questionable. It could just as well be a retrospective of the time covered by the predecessors.
Although it’s still unknown which details Microsoft and developer Relic Entertainment will be eliciting, on Twitter, the hype machine has been given a good boost. Especially the tweet of the Marketing General Manager at Xbox Games, Aaron Greenberg, caused a lot of excitement among the fans:
GameStar already reported at Gamescom that the X019 would even feature gameplay. So we can look forward to more than just a one and a half minute trailer. Maybe there will even be a concrete release date.
Of course, we will keep you up to date and look forward to the next part of the series. After all, Age of Empires is not wrongly described as one of the ancestors of modern real-time strategy, and for the second part of the series even smaller tournaments take place today.
