The first teams qualified last weekend for the EPICENTER Major at the end of June. A total of 14 teams are taking part in the tournament, with not only total prize money of over $1,000,000 to win but also coveted DPC points for the International.
The final qualifiers for the EPICENTER Major are over, and the first twelve teams for the tournament have been selected. Two and three teams respectively qualified last weekend. The last two teams will be decided by the StarLadder ImbaTV Minor, whose Open Qualifier is currently starting.
An overview of the closed qualifiers of Europe and the CIS region:
In Europe Team Secret already managed to qualify in the group phase for the major, the first one from the group phase has a place safe and does not have to play in the offs. This is true for each region. Team Liquid only just managed to slip into the playoffs with a tiebreaker against Aachen City Esports. There they defeated OG first and then Alliance, who also won the tiebreaker. OG had to fight his way back up in the loser bracket. With a solid 2-0 win against Ninjas in Pyjamas and a thrilling third game against Alliance, OG also managed to penetrate the Major.
In the CIS region, there was a 1st place tiebreaker between Natus Vincere, Virtus.pro and Gambit Esports. Gambit Esports secured a clear 2:0 and qualified as the first CIS for the Major. The meeting of Natus Vincere and Virtus.pro in the tiebreaker should not be the last one in this qualification. So they found their way back to the Upper Bracket Finals, where Natus Vincere quickly closed the bag after a first loss and marched into the Grand Finals. But Virtus.pro from the Lower Bracket quickly found his way back to the Grand Finals and secured a place in the majors in a thrilling 3:2 against Natus Vincere.
The EPICENTER Major will take place from June 22nd to June 30th in Russia / Russia Moscow. A total of $1,000,000 in prize money can be collected as well as 15,000 Dota Pro Circuit points, which are needed for the qualification to the Internationals 2019.
