French champions Paris St.-Germain, plagued by injuries, have suffered a surprising defeat in Ligue 1. Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team lost 2-0 (1-0) to superstar Neymar in the starting eleven of Stade Reims on the seventh matchday. But with 15 points PSG remains leaders ahead of SCO Angers.
“We gave some players a chance today. I have confidence in them, and I’m sure we can play better with today’s team,” Tuchel said, finding that his team “played too complicated”.
Tuchel continued: “Perhaps it is sometimes necessary to lose to understand that winning is never easy.”
PSG must do without several top performers
Hassane Kamara headed Reims after 29 minutes in the lead, Boulaye Dia (90.+4) scored with a side puller. For the hosts, it was the first defeat after 22 unbeaten home games in the league in a row.
German internationals Julian Draxler and Thilo Kehrer again missed PSG due to foot injuries. While world champions Kylian Mbappe, strikers Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi, and scrapper Marco Verratti were also missing. With the former Schalker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, another player had to leave the field due to injury during the match.
Dario Maresic, a regional of the Austrian Football Federation (ÖFB), sat on the bench with Reims. At the start of the Champions League, PSG had surprisingly won 3-0 against Real Madrid, despite injury worries at the start.
