FC Sion continues to expand its eSports team and hires two new players. The aim is to attract attention to the Swiss scene.
On Thursday morning FC Sion announced that it was adding two players to its eSports team. Fabio Pechlaner of Power Esports, who will play on PS4, and Rufus Isaka, his XBox player, who has attracted attention several times in the past.
FC Sion’s main aim is to increase its visibility on the Swiss scene, because at the Swiss Cup, for example, the football club was not as strongly represented as it had hoped. With the new addition, the eSports roster will have better opportunities to train together. The goal is to qualify for the Global Series at FIFA 20 and, of course, to show off at the Swiss Championship.
What is special, however, is that the Valais canton has decided in favour of two Swiss-German athletes. This has nothing to do with the language, however, but rather with the fact that both Pechlaner and Isaka have played very well in recent months. Pechlaner is considered “Newcomer of the Year” by the club and has proven his skills with his 2nd place at the 2v2 tournament of the Coca-Cola eCup.
Pechlaner says about his new commitment: “A dream comes true for me. It is a great honour for me to be able to represent FC Sion on the virtual grass”.
The Swiss football clubs are therefore continuing to expand their eSports-Rosters – now also FC Sion. So it’s about time a permanent Swiss league started, which can also offer a suitable stage.
