What Is a ‘Come Out Roll’ ?

Of all the rolls in a game of Craps, a Come Out Roll is its most important one. This roll determines how the rest of the game will play out. The player rolling the dice (a.k.a. the shooter,) may roll a seven or an eleven. At that point, any other player that bet on those numbers wins. A roll of two, three or twelve results in a win for any player that bet against those numbers. Rolling a number other than one of these stated, starts the points phase of the game.

Come Out Roll Explained

After the shooter’s roll results in a two, a three or a twelve, the player to the left becomes the new shooter. A shooter has to toss the dice with one hand and the dice has to hit the wall at the back. Any throw of the dice that turns out differently must be redone.

Before rolling the dice, the shooter has to place a bet. It must be on the ‘don’t pass’ or ‘pass line’. After the shooter places a bet all other players choose to bet with or against the shooter. However, they may instead choose to bet both on the ‘pass’ and ‘don’t pass’ lines. The odds are even for both sections, so it doesn’t matter if players choose one, the other, or both. As a result, if a bet wins, players that placed it will double their available cash.

In a casino, the game dealer turns a sign-off or on, depending on if the point phase of the game has begun. If the sign is on, the point phase has begun, but if it’s off, it hasn’t. When the game moves into the point phase players are able to go further up the table to place bets with higher odds. On the table’s right side, players will see the various odds listed for the throws that are possible. Any player that bets that the shooter will roll a number that’s been doubled will win with 30-1 odds. In this way, the game keeps them interested and thoroughly engaged.
