Reynor dissects Serral in finals of SC2 WCS Summer

The throne of King in the North is shaking: Italian Riccardo “Reynor” Romiti (17) beat the Starcraft 2 high-flyer Joona “Serral” Sotala (21) 4:2 at the World Championship Series (WCS) Summer. Reynor is thus qualified for the World Championship in autumn.

The two Zerg players played a close match in the final at the event in Kiev. After equalizing 2:2, Reynor put a lot of pressure in the fifth game with a Roach-Ravager-Push and took the lead with 3:2. In the sixth game, the young Italian took control of the map with Mutalisken and decided after another attack with Roach/Ravager.

“I thought it was heavier,” Reynor commented on the weight of the WCS trophy shortly after he had lifted it up. “I don’t think I’m as consistently strong as Serral yet. I still have to work on that.”

Reynor has only been allowed to play in the WCS for a year because of his age. But he made his title ambitions clear in April when he beat Serral at the regional tournament WCS Winter Europe. With his victory in Kiev, the 17-year-old also ended Finn’s winning streak that lasted over five WCS main events.

The currently best German Starcraft 2 players Gabriel “HeRoMaRinE” Segat and Tobias “ShoWTimE” Sieber made it to the semi-finals – but there they finished against the two finalists. Both players lost to their opponents 1:3. Dario “TLO” Wünsch made it into the round of 16 with a good performance in the group phase.
