The Play-in phase is over, and four more teams are joining the set organisations.
In a heartbeat final, the Unicorns of Love lost to the European representative Splyce 2:3 and have to travel home. The fan favourites are also victims of the system.
Europe suffers
The group phase of the Play-Ins went well for the Unicorns, where they won against Clutch Gaming twice. In the famous triple 2:2 group, tiebreakers had to decide which teams were allowed to advance. There the unicorns threw the Australian team MAMMOTH out of the tournament, but then lost the first place to CG.
For European fans, the drawing of the following duels was particularly annoying. The former LCS team UOL met Splyce, and Clutch Gaming was allowed to tackle the supposedly easy draw against Royal Youth (Turkey).
CG won 3:0 and advanced into the group phase. The Unicorns remained behind – despite two successes against CG.
Hong Kong Attitude also beat Isurus Gaming 3-1.
Together with Damwon Gaming, who also triumphed 3-1 over Lowkey Esports, the groups for the real Worlds 2019 are complete.
The drawing resulted in the following constellations:
Group A:
G2 Esports
Griffin
Cloud9
Hong Kong Attitude
Group B:
FunPlus PhoeniX
CTBCJ team
GIGABYTE Marines
splyce
Group C:
SK Telekom T1
FNATIC
Royal Never Give Up
clutch gaming
Group D:
Team Liquid
ahq eSports Club
Invictus Gaming
Damwon Gaming
Classification of groups
The two strongest constellations are undoubtedly grouped A and C, whereby the “death group” around SK Telekom T1, FNATIC and Royal Never Give Up with the newcomer Clutch Gaming from North America is now even more explosive.
This is where the full strength of the four largest regions collides. The result can hardly be predicted, but most voices see SKT as the clear favourite for the group win.
The European flagship of G2 Esports will look forward to the upcoming tasks. Concerning the performance at the Mid Season Invitational, every opponent should be feasible for the team around “Caps” and “Perkz”.
FNATIC and SK Telekom T1 will open the spectacle on Saturday, October 12th, at 2 pm.
