At a press conference on the FIFA eWorld Cup, Polish President Andrzej Duda speaks out clearly on the question of whether eSports can be described as a sport.
“eSports can undoubtedly be described as sport” – Polish President Andrzej Duda made this clear at a press conference.
The PK was convened by him himself to honor and introduce the Polish national representatives for the FIFA eWorld Cup 2019.
In this speech, he also commented on the sports issue, which has been on many people’s minds for a long time: Is eSport sport? According to Andrzej Duda, this is definitely the case.
“Young people who are among the world’s best in such a modern thing are very important. It’s a personal but also a technological change on a global level,” says Duda.
“If we can make it clear that chess is a sport, then we can also apply it to the bridge and ultimately to eSport – you develop an incredible amount of reflexes and fine motor skills, after all. So eSport can undoubtedly be considered a sport.”
FIFA as a prime example
Duda is particularly enthusiastic about FIFA. The reason for this is that it is a game that is available to all age groups without restrictions or specifications. But it would certainly be open to other games, as long as they are regulated according to their content.
“FIFA is a game that is not very controversial. There are no negative elements. That’s why I’m so happy to be able to put this game in the spotlight here because football is something that’s especially close to many Polish boys.”
