3-Card-Brag Review

A 3-Card-Brag is a bluffing game which shares many similarities with poker. Rather than the actual actions in the game that poker takes into consideration, there is more of the betting and bluffing. When players wish to play, they raise their hands. The hands are then ranked at the showdown as they would be in poker with some differences to the winning hand.

Brag in British and European Casinos

Brag is a form of poker similar to that often seen in British and European Casinos. However, its popularity has reduced over the years. Brag employs virtually the same method as poker. The only difference is that instead of exchanging in the draw or receiving additional table cards, players play the cards they are dealt with on the table. It involves some extent of bluffing as the stakes rise so high. At this point, players need to commit as soon as they can. Pots in Brag can get so high because of every bet increase concerning the last value. Players bet until everyone is ready to show their hands; the best-ranked hand wins the game.

The most typical form of Brag is 3-Card-Brag. Players try to make the best three-card-hand from the cards they have and then bet on that hand till the turn is over. Other versions of the game exist, named after the number of cards in play. In cases where players can use four cards, the players are free to let go of one. If it so happens that there are five, six or seven cards, players put together the best hand of three cards from the available set and then discard the rest. There are also not only Stud versions of the game, but also trick-taking version called Thirteen Brag.

When betting on the 3-Card-Brag, there are several rules to note. Bets have to be made without looking at the cards and this is known to all who play the game. For players who might be running out of money, they can employ the cover-the-pot betting strategy as a way to salvage some momentum. It works by having the player place their bet in the pot after everyone in the main game has had their turn. Any bets after the cover, will be a side bet. After the game in place, should the winner have cards that are of lesser value compared to the player who covered the pot. Then that player is entitled to all the money in the pot.
