What Is the Little Cat ?

In poker, the ‘Little Cat’ is a non-standard hand of five cards, with no straights, pairs, or flush cards, and three is the lowest ranking card, while eight is the highest.

Also called Little Tiger, Little Cat is a nonstandard hand frequently used in variations of Poker to create additional play combinations and possibilities, and to breathe new life into a card game. Non-standard hands are not recognised at Poker tables in online and land-based venues. For the sake of optimum entertainment, Poker games have provided so many standard and non-standard hands used to enhance winning opportunities to every player in the game.

Typically used in Poker games like 5-Card Draw, the house rules naturally define these non-standard poker hands, and unofficially recognise Poker rules. They are regarded as special hands and unique in their own right. They are, therefore, subject to variation.

If more than one player has a ‘Little Cat’, the winner is the one holding the Little Cat consisting of a combination of higher-scoring cards. If the first player’s Little Cat combination of 3-5-6-7-8, it triumphs over the second player’s Little Cat combination of 3-4-6-7-8, because the five in the first player’s hand is the highest card that the two hands don’t share. The winning hand comprised of the best five cards. If the hands are the same rank, the highest card is not held in common, then the kicker determines the winner.

However, this is the case only for the fifth card. The sixth card is never used as a tiebreaker. If the hands are tied, the pot will split evenly among all the winning players. In case there is an odd chip remaining, the winning player closest on the left of the dealer gets it.

All players in the game will first need to agree ahead of the game, to use the non-standard hands, and players who want to play the game with the added house rules, should at all times make sure they understand all details to avoid spoiling the fun.
