Who Is the Floor-man ?

The member of staff whose duty it is to take care of visiting guests and the games played are usually known by the following names, floor-man, -woman, -person and so on. The floor-man performs similar duties to the general manager or a foreman of the organisation, making most people believe that that’s where the name floor-man originated. The floor-man must always ensure the casino floor, or the main playing ground is in good order.

Just as other establishments have work shifts, casino houses do the same with their floor-men, whereby they have more than one floor-man to share the work in the casino house. Moreso, aside from working on the floor of the casino house, the floor-man also handles some other roles in smaller casinos or during their quiet times. The duty of a floor-man varies depending on the job of the premises manager whose responsibility is restricted to taking care of the premises. The primary duty of the floorman is to make sure all players are happy as he oversees the games and makes sure the games are moving smoothly.

In order to keep all players happy and have a smoothly running gaming environment, the floor-man must be the type that can manage disputes among aggravated players and should also be able to make decisions that bind all players participating in a game. His decision is final, just as a referee’s is, when officiating a football match or an umpire. The floor-man’s role includes significant activities like supervising the dealers and also setting the tables and he or she must be vigilant so that no cheating will occur.

The floor-man is the heartbeat of a game and sometimes has to render hospitality services; in fact, they may be asked to arrange comps and give rewards to the organisation’s most active players. A floor-man can also act as the chip-runner who makes changes in a game and is capable of providing a fresh deck when and where necessary at a table.

Sometimes they act as the brush for poker games and are capable of commissioning and seating players to fill out games. Even in cases where a table game or machine has a technical problem, the floor-man is always the first to notice and find a quick solution to such issues.
