What is Bones ?

Bones (bone; singular) is an intriguing name that has various meanings when it comes to gaming or casino context. This is an informal name given for dice. And dice is a random device used for gambling. It was given the name ‘bones’ since back in the earlier days before dice were created, where dice-style games were played, then made from ivory using the knuckle or small bones. This term also used to refer to dominoes which are traditionally created from ivory.

It is also the name for a dice game where each player needed to reach pre-determined points. Those achieving the points that were bet, in just as few throws as possible would be the winner.

Bones Explained

The expression ‘role those bones’ is commonly heard inside a casino.

When the term Bones is used in a gaming context, it refers to playing Craps; a widely-known dice game in which players will be betting on the possible outcome for the two dice being thrown (rolled) together. Although some would suggest that this type of game is fairly straightforward when betting is involved, it can become quite complicated.

Craps is one of the more popular dice games played in the casino. Players can bet against each other (or also called as “street craps”) or can play against a bank (also known as “casino craps,” “table craps” or simply “craps”). Bones are not limited to playing just Craps, it is also used in a variety of dice games in the casino. Games such as Chuck-a-luck, Banca Francesca, Big Six, Die Rich and Hazard all involves the usage of dice. Aside from the traditional rolling of Bones, there is also the game called “roll the bones,” a slot machine that everyone can play in the casino.
Playing dice games can be extremely lucrative! Some Craps players have made a fortune, testing their luck by rolling out those Bones. One of these high-profile players is Stanley Fujitake. He used his luck and the Bones to his advantage. It was in 1989, after throwing out the Bones for the record-breaking 118th times in a Crap session, he won just a small amount of $1,000,000. Just imagine how playing Bones can increase your fortune in life.

Another player with the name of Patricia Demauro had broken the record of Fujitake. It was in 2009 that she set the new world-record of rolling the dice for 154 times! Maybe it was due to its immense value that it was decided not to reveal the amount.
