What Is Boat ?

A boat refers to a five-card poker hand. This poker hand contains a matching pair along with the three-of-a-kind or triple set. Most Poker players more commonly know it as a Full House. It is also the term commonly heard in casinos as well as on payout tables. Also, a Boat can beat the non-consecutive Flush, and it is considered as the second highest five-card hand while ranked lowers than the four-of-a-kind hand.

Boat Explained

Boat is a slang casino term which simply refers to a Full House in Poker. This Poker hand could be any of the set of five cards containing a matching pair plus the triple set. For example, a Full House will be 3-3-6-6-6, as is 2-2-K-K-K. Then, the hand can be made solely from the cards of the player’s hand where it may appear in the community cards or even can be a combination of the two.
That term Boat was believed to come from the days of riverboat gambling on the Mississippi River. Instead of a Full House, it was thought that the house becomes a Full Boat on the floating venues that has been shortened over time and then, passed into general use.
If players want to get the best Full House, they need to have the highest three-of-a-kind. If a player and the opponent have the same three-of-a-kind, the player should look at who has the higher Pair. Then, the one with the higher Pair will win the hand. But, if both parties have similar, three-of-a-kind and Pair, the player will split the pot.
Furthermore, the Boat could beat a Flush but eventually can be beaten by a Royal Flush hand, four-of-a-kind, or Straight Flush. In video Poker, a Boat hand mat payout at a rate of 9:1 while some versions like Better or Jacks would slash these odds to 7:1 or 8:1 which adds in the chance of an A-A, J-J, K-K, or Q-Q payout instead.
Some casino tables might also adjust the actual payout rates of a Full House or Boat so that it could bring in enhanced odds for other hands. This can be occasionally seen when a progressive jackpot is available which makes players more eager to win the game.
