Game Story
SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Rick Adelman has had to sweat out wins recently, but his 700th victory came a lot easier. Adelman became the 15th coach in league history to reach the 700-win plateau when the Sacramento Kings rolled to a 112-93 victory over the reeling Portland Trail Blazers. In his seventh season with the Kings, Adelman joined three other active coaches with 700 career victories - Detroit's Larry Brown, Utah's Jerry Sloan and Denver's George Karl. "Each time one of those (milestones) happens, you appreciate it more because you know when you look back how much effort went into it," Adelman said. "You know everything that's happened to get to that point. I have been really blessed to be in two great situations - in Portland, and the last seven in Sacramento has been terrific because this team has played at such a high level." "That's a good accomplishment and I'm happy for him," Kings guard Mike Bibby said. "We have a lot more to go and we're going to try to add to that list." Of Sacramento's four wins prior to this one, the team needed buzzer-beaters from Bibby in two of them and overtime in a third. The Kings, who never trailed, raced to a 30-19 lead after one period behind a combined 15 points from Kenny Thomas and Peja Stojakovic. Thomas made the most of his first start in a Kings uniform, collecting 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists. He was in the lineup in place of Brian Skinner, who sprained both his thumbs in the loss to Golden State on Sunday. "I didn't even know until like minutes before the game," Thomas said. "It was an easy adjustment for me because of starting over the years. I was exited to be able to start." "They were hitting their shots," Portland center Joel Przybilla said. "You've got to give a lot of credit to their locker room. They've been banged up and the guys that they put out there just wanted it a little bit more tonight." Stojakovic added 23 points for Sacramento, which remained one game ahead of Houston for fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored a season-high 27 points and Damon Stoudamire collected 25 and 11 assists for the Trail Blazers, who have lost 12 of their last 13. Przybilla has been one of the few bright spots for the hapless Blazers. Along with 13 points, the 7-footer grabbed 21 rebounds - one shy of his career best - and blocked a career-high eight shots. "Each day we are trying to get better," Przybilla said. "We're not going to back down from anyone."
