Game Story

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- For the second time in as many games, Steve Francis led the Houston Rockets to a home overtime victory.
Francis had 32 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists as he powered the Rockets to a 98-92 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
On Tuesday night, Houston (2-0) defeated Atlanta, 89-84, in overtime behind Francis' team highs of 23 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.
In this one, Francis took over in the extra period, collecting six points, two assists and a clutch rebound.
"Steve was great down the stretch," said Clippers coach Alvin Gentry. "He made some big plays and hit his shots all night."
Elton Brand paced the Clippers (0-2) with 26 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots. With 15 seconds left in regulation, he hit a driving layup to tie it, 86-86.
Francis had a chance to win the game but missed a jumper from just inside the 3-point line at the buzzer.
Neither team scored until Houston's Kevin Willis hit two free throws with 2:22 to go. Houston was clinging to a 90-89 lead with less than 1:30 remaining when Francis hit a jumper from the top of the key, pulled down a rebound of Eric Piatkowski's miss and nailed a floater in the lane to give the Rockets a 94-89 lead.
Backcourt mate Cuttino Mobley added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Houston. Backup center Willis added 12 points and 13 boards.
Lamar Odom had 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Clippers but was blanked in overtime.
Houston was 2-2 in overtime last season, while Los Angeles was 3-10, losing their first eight extra-session contests.
"We just need to get our timing down and hit some of those open shots," Francis said. "When we do that, things'll get a little easier."
Neither team held a double-digit lead in a game that featured 17 ties and seven lead changes.
Francis scored 14 points in the first half, which ended in a 44-44 tie.
Rockets forward Glen Rice left early in the first quarter after Odom accidentally elbowed him in the forehead while he was driving for a layup. Rice took nine stitches and returned for the second half, scoring all nine of his points during a 17-3 third-quarter run.
"It was good to see Glen back in the game," said Francis. "He really sparked us on D after getting cut."
The Rockets shot just 37 percent (37-of-100) from the field but held the Clippers below 36 percent (31-of-87).
"We had some big stops and made the big shots when we needed them," Houston coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "But I am going to ask Les (Rockets owner Leslie Alexander) about overtime pay."
