Game Story
TORONTO (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell scored 10 of his 22 points during a pivotal third-quarter run as the Milwaukee Bucks rebounded from a bad loss with a key 107-91 victory over the Central Division-leading Toronto Raptors.
Glenn Robinson also scored 22 points for the Bucks, who lost, 107-90, to the lowly New Jersey Nets on Wednesday. Milwaukee won for just the third time in seven games.
Cassell, who also had 10 assists and five rebounds, scored 10 points in a 22-5 burst to start the second half as the Bucks opened up their largest lead at 73-53 with 3:54 left in the third quarter.
Toronto scored a season-low 13 points, committed 11 turnovers and shot 35 percent (6-of-17) in the third period.
"The third quarter has been a key for us all year," Raptors forward Charles Oakley said. "We took too many jumpers. They hit their shots. We've got to play better defense, everybody. It's a team effort."
Toronto pulled within 83-74 on a tip-in by Vince Carter with 8:18 to play but got no closer.
After Doug Christie's nine-footer cut Milwaukee's lead to 92-81 with 3:23 left, the Bucks scored the next seven points as Robinson hit a 3-pointer and a 10-footer and Ray Allen dunked to extend the advantage to 99-81 with 2:22 to play.
Milwaukee shot 52 percent (44-of-84) from the field, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range, and dished out 28 assists.
"We passed the ball. We were getting open shots," Cassell said. "Like George (coach George Karl) said, if we play for the pass instead of the shot, we'll become one of the best teams in the league."
Carter scored 25 points after posting back-to-back 30-point games for the first time in his career. Christie added 14 points as Toronto's three-game winning streak -- all at home -- came to an end.
Robinson scored 12 points in the first quarter as Milwaukee took a 33-29 lead.
"We got off to a good start," Robinson said. "That's big. The team that gets off to a better start is usually the team that wins."
Milwaukee moved out to a 47-35 lead in the second quarter on a 16-footer by Allen with 7:16 remaining. But the Raptors went on a 7-0 run over the next 3:24 as Christie hit a running jumper, Curry drained a 3-pointer and Muggsy Bogues hit a 10-footer with 3:52 to play, cutting the deficit to 47-42.
Curry hit on 1-of-2 free throws to extend Milwaukee's lead to 51-43 with 1:49 left, but a 3-pointer by Dee Brown and a hook shot by Kevin Willis with 16 seconds remaining allowed Toronto to pull within 51-48 at the intermission.
Toronto outrebounded Milwaukee, 42-37, and made 9-of-27 shots from beyond the arc but shot just 39 percent (34-of-87) overall.
