Game Story

PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- Malik Sealy missed an easy layup and an uncontested dunk in the final minute and the Minnesota Timberwolves missed a golden opportunity for their first road win against the Portland Trail Blazers since 1993.
The Timberwolves nearly overcame an 18-point second-half deficit but never recovered from Sealy's miscues, suffering their 14th straight loss in Portland, 90-86.
Rasheed Wallace scored 23 points and Steve Smith added 18 for the Blazers, who have split six games since opening the season 13-2. And they nearly squandered tonight's game.
Kevin Garnett scored 26 points and buried a five-foot jumper with 1:20 remaining that pulled Minnesota within 85-84. Smith missed a 25-footer on Portland's ensuing trip and the Timberwolves, who trailed 54-36 midway through the third quarter, had the ball with a chance to go ahead.
But Sealy's layup attempt with 40 seconds to go came off the glass and kissed the front of the rim before falling into the arms of Smith, who hit a running jumper on the other end to stretch the lead to 87-84 with 15 seconds remaining.
After a timeout, Sealy received the ensuing inbound pass, drove to the basket and clanged his wide-open jam attempt off the back of the rim, watching helplessly as the ball again sailed into the arms of Smith, who made two free throws with nine seconds left to seal the win.
Minnesota has not won in Portland since a 104-91 triumph on February 2, 1993 and is just 5-34 overall here. The Timberwolves were without rookie forward Wally Szczerbiak for the third time in four games due to a sore right knee.
The Blazers improved to 7-2 at home and have won six straight overall in the series.
