Game Story
SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Reggie Miller is starting to regain his shooting touch.
Miller scored a season-high 31 points as the Indiana Pacers completed a winning road trip and handed the Utah Jazz an embarrassing 100-75 loss.
Miller scored 19 points in the opening half, helping the Pacers build a 55-40 advantage. The sharpshooter connected on 10-of-19 shots from the floor, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range.
Indiana split the first two games of its four-game road trip with Miller going just 3-of-20 from the floor. He has made 17-of-31 shots in his last two games, including tonight.
"I was getting the ball in good positions and I felt I could work Jeff (Hornacek) a little with off screens, and the good thing about it was to use my height advantage down low to create shots for myself," Miller said.
Jalen Rose added 17 points for the Pacers, who led by as many as 29 points in the second half as they stopped a seven-game losing streak in Utah and completed a 3-1 road trip that also included a win in Portland. Indiana last won in Utah on December 15, 1990.
"I thought on offense we were very patient, we moved the ball around, our execution was excellent," Indiana coach Larry Bird said. "We just played a solid game. We had a lot of guys that played well."
Karl Malone scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Utah, which suffered its third-worst home loss since moving into the Delta Center in 1991. Its biggest loss at the Delta Center was a 105-78 pounding at hands of Houston on February 23, 1993.
"Everything was frustrating tonight, I think everything," Malone said. "I can't even remember the last time we played like this, not even my rookie year (1985), especially at home. It's an embarrassment."
Holding a four-point lead midway through the second quarter, the Pacers took control for good with a 14-4 spurt.
Austin Croshere, who has become a key contributor off Indiana's bench, drilled a 3-pointer and Rose hit consecutive baskets to start the surge that Rik Smits capped with a hook shot, giving Indiana a 49-35 cushion with 2:22 before halftime.
Utah scored five straight points to get within single digits before the Pacers tallied the final five points of the half to restore a double-digit lead. Indiana led by double figures the entire second half.
Jazz coach Jerry Sloan clearly was not pleased with his team's effort.
"We just didn't come and do much tonight," he said. "They beat us right from the beginning of the ballgame all the way through. They beat us with just plain old simple basketball. They posted us up, they got offensive rebounds, they drove to the basket. Anything they wanted to do, they just took advantage of us.
"We didn't have much resistance. I'm disappointed. I hope our players are disappointed. If they're happy with it, then we really have problems."
The Pacers opened their biggest lead at 98-69 with under two minutes remaining when Al Harrington converted a layup.
Harrington scored 12 points for the Pacers, who shot 51 percent (41-of-80) and held Utah to just 38 percent (30-of-79).
The only other Utah player in double figures was Hornacek, who finished with 10 points.
