Game Story
OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Antawn Jamison scored 14 of his
20 points in the first half as the Golden State Warriors used an
early second-quarter burst to pull away for a 99-79 victory over
the undermanned Chicago Bulls.
Jamison scored a career-high 27 points on Saturday and followed
that with 14 points and seven rebounds in the first half.
Donyell Marshall added 11 points and 18 rebounds for the
Warriors, who won for only the second time in seven games and
snapped a 13-game losing streak against the Bulls.
"Teams that are hurt like that, we've got to come in and take
advantage of that," Jamison said. "We just need to find games
to get a good chemistry down. This was a must-win."
"These are teams that can come in and shock you," Marshall
added. "They have nothing to lose. I'm sure a lot of people
look at us the same way. A win like this is very valuable. If
we lose these games, these are the ones that can come back and
haunt you."
Rookie Elton Brand led Chicago with 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Bulls, who have dropped six of seven games this season, were
without star forward Toni Kukoc, who sat out with back spasms,
and guard Fred Hoiberg, who is out with a bruised right knee.
The Warriors, who posted their first win in four home contests,
posted a 20-point win for only the second time in 179 games.
"The way we've been struggling lately, we knew we had to play 48
minutes," Jamison added. "Games like this can really help you
out. You can take a lot from this game, use this game not as a
confidence booster but one that could help tomorrow against
Seattle."
With the game tied, 4-4, Jamison hit two free throws to ignite
an 11-0 run just under five minutes into the contest. He capped
the burst with a free throw with 5:59 left.
The lead was five at the end of the first quarter, but Golden
State took control by opening the second quarter with a 12-2
burst.
Chicago got no closer than 19 in the second half.
"Every win is a must-win," Golden State coach P.J. Carlesimo
said. "I'm not being smart. We've dug a big enough hole
already. So tonight's a step, a significant step."
"We didn't locate Jamison in the transition in the first half,"
Chicago coach Tim Floyd said. "He was outstanding in finishing.
When we did locate him, we got them into a half-court game. I
think we missed Fred and Toni in a big way, two guys we can
count on to make shots. I think we missed Fred defensively as
well."
The Bulls' starting five combined to shoot 16-of-48, but rookies
Dedric Willoughby and Ron Artest had 14 points apiece off the
bench. Chicago made only 32-of-92 shots and missed 10-of-21
free throws.
"We couldn't get started worth a darn tonight and it was similar
to our last few games," Floyd said. "I thought our looks were
good in the first quarter, but we couldn't get anything down out
of our post-ups."
Adonal Foyle had 10 points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes for the
Warriors, who held a 59-52 edge on the boards.
