Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Darrell Armstrong had 27 points as coach Chuck Daly's new three-guard offense resulted in all five players scoring in double figures, helping the Orlando Magic to a 93-86 victory over the slumping Washington Wizards.
Armstrong's backcourt mates, Nick Anderson and Penny Hardaway, combined for 24 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists as the trio gave the Wizards fits all night.
Daly first employed the new system in Tuesday's 88-87 win over Indiana, which snapped a season-high five-game losing streak.
"We'll stay with it the next two games and into the playoffs, but we could get caught," Daly said. "If you play a team with a big player, like last night with (Indiana's) Derrick McKey, who is 6-9 and they will post you up every single time."
With the game knotted at 61-61 late in the third quarter, Armstrong made a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws around a jumper by Hardaway to cap an 11-0 run that bridged the final period and gave the Magic a 72-61 bulge with 9:33 to play.
"Well, this one was really big," said Hardaway. "This game was bigger than last night because you're going to win a game that big, then come in here and lose to Washington, you throw away everything that you did last night."
Isaac Austin scored 15 points and Horace Grant added 13 and a career-high seven blocks for Orlando, which pulled within 1 1/2 games of Miami for the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
"We know we're in second place," Armstrong said. "We did ourselves a big favor last night by winning that game in Indiana, coming back and winning tonight. Then we've got to win Friday (against New Jersey)."
Calbert Cheaney scored 19 points and Rod Strickland added 15, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for his first triple-double of the season for Washington, which has lost a season-high seven straight games.
"With all due respect to the Orlando Magic, I don't give a (crap) what they do in the playoffs," said Strickland. "I wish them luck and hope they play well, but I don't need to watch them."
Otis Thorpe and Mitch Richmond scored 16 points each for Washington, which shot 40 percent (35-of-87) and forced 24 turnovers.
"We have to go out and try and get a win before this season ends," Thorpe said. "It is frustrating because sometimes we show we can play and then other times we show that we can't play."
The Magic shot 50 percent (32-of-64) and held a 46-38 advantage on the boards.
Ben Wallace had nine points and 13 rebounds for the Wizards, who forged a 61-61 tie with 1:28 left in the third quarter on Richmond's 3-pointer.
Danny Schayes started Orlando's decisive run with a 17-footer before rookie Matt Harpring made a pair from the line and Armstrong drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to open a 68-61 cushion entering the final quarter.
"Darrell is Darrell," Daly said. "All you have to do is look at the stats -- 7-for-11, 10-for-10 from the free-throw line and nine assists. It's another superb game."
Anderson grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds to go with 14 points, while Hardaway had 10 points and nine boards.
"Right now we want to get our momentum going into the playoffs," Hardaway said.
