Game Story

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- David Robinson scored 15 of his 18 points in the first half as the San Antonio Spurs extended their winning streak to five games with a 103-76 pounding of the weary Dallas Mavericks.
Robinson helped the Spurs build a 52-41 advantage by halftime. He finished 7-of-8 from the field for the game.
Tim Duncan added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Malik Rose also had 14 points for the Spurs, who have won 10 straight home games and pulled within two games of the Utah Jazz for the best record in the league.
"I'm very pleased with the team's attention to detail," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "They played well for a long time tonight, both the bench and the starters. Their mental focus and toughness was impressive."
San Antonio avenged a loss to the Mavericks earlier this month and has won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the Texas rivals.
"It feels good to get these guys back," Rose said. "They play a physical game. They really took a lot of steam out of us earlier when they beat us."
Michael Finley poured in 20 points for Dallas, which played its third game in as many nights and was denied in a bid for a season-high third straight win.
"They were ready for us," Dallas coach Don Nelson said. "We expected they would be. This was our third in a row and we had tired legs. We were lucky to be down only 11 at the half. We thought maybe we could make a run at in the second but they never gave us a sniff at this one."
The Spurs still held a 59-51 advantage with 7 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter before putting the game out of reach.
Duncan, who went 6-of-11 from the floor, sank a short jumper to trigger a 22-5 burst that closed the quarter and pushed the lead to 81-56. San Antonio's biggest margin in the fourth quarter was the final score.
Taking advantage of a tired Dallas team, the Spurs shot 52 percent (38-of-73) while holding the Mavs to just 38 percent (30-of-79) from the floor.
The starting frontcourt of Robinson, Duncan and Sean Elliott had their way with the Dallas front line of Shawn Bradley, Gary Trent and rookie Dirk Nowitzki, outscoring them, 44-21.
Avery Johnson collected 10 points and eight assists for San Antonio.
Bradley's tip-in to start the game gave the Mavericks their only lead. Robinson had nine points in the period as the Spurs opened a 32-23 advantage.
Hubert Davis added 11 points for Dallas, which committed 20 turnovers that led to 21 points for the Spurs.
