Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- For one night, the New Jersey Nets were not sleeping in Seattle.
Stephon Marbury and Scott Burrell scored 18 points apiece as the Nets snapped a nine-game losing streak in Seattle with their most lopsided win of the season, a 121-91 rout of the SuperSonics.
Jamie Feick, Keith Van Horn and Kendall Gill each netted 16 points helping New Jersey to its first triumph in Seattle since a 118-112 victory January 31, 1989. Feick's total is a career-high.
Feick also grabbed 11 rebound as the Nets outrebounded the Sonics 48-35, including 15-9 on the offensive boards.
The win ended a three-game skid for the Nets, who completed a 1-2 road trip and won just their fourth road game of the season. This also was New Jersey's biggest victory over the Sonics, surpassing a 21-point decision on March 6, 1985.
"We had a very good practice yesterday," Nets coach Don Casey said. "I think we realy worked on the defensive end trying to take advantage of their (three-point) game. We got off to a tremendous defensive start, which led to the offense."
Gary Payton scored 29 points and Hersey Hawkins, playing in his 500th consecutive game, added 21 for Seattle, which finished 1-2 in a stretch of three games in as many nights. The Sonics have lost four of their last seven home games.
"After tonight, the only thing you can do is get as much rest as we can," Hawkins said. "Personally, I was a litle tired, but I wasn't as bad off as thought I would be. New Jersey was just fresher."
"The fans didn't like it. We didn't like it. It was a terrible night for us," Sonics coach Paul Westphal said. "I don't want to make anything sound like an excuse, but the reality is that we know we can play better than that."
New Jersey scored 15 straight points during a five-minute stretch bridging the first and second quarters to gain a 41-25 lead. Kerry Kittles led the Nets with nine points during the run.
Burrell led the Nets with 13 points in the first half as New Jersey built a 54-43 intermission lead.
"I think that was one of the best wins for our team," Burrell said. "We dominated and played hard defense. They had no easy looks, so that is what started them off for us. I think yesterday's practice rejuvenated me."
A 16-6 burst put the Nets ahead, 74-53, midway through the third quarter. Kendall Gill had six during that binge.
Seattle coach Paul Westphal decided he had seen enough and was ejected with 6:43 left after arguing a flagrant foul call on Olden Polynice with the Nets ahead by 25 points.
