Game Story
MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Glenn Robinson scored 10 of his season-high 33 points during a decisive fourth-quarter run as the Milwaukee Bucks handed the Cleveland Cavaliers a crucial 99-91 loss.
"Glenn Robinson was big and played a great game," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "In the last few minutes we found a way to win. Tonight's game was close to a playoff mentality -- physical, interesting and we need that."
Cleveland entered tonight's contest percentage points ahead of New York and one-half game in front of Philadelphia for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. Tonight's loss, combined with the 76ers' 96-92 win at New Jersey, dropped the Cavaliers into ninth place in the East.
"They made the shots they had to to win the game," Cleveland coach Mike Fratello said. "Glenn had a huge game for them. We had our chances but they made the shots and we didn't."
Derek Anderson sank a 3-pointer with 5:18 to play that gave Cleveland its biggest lead at 83-78. The Bucks responded with an 18-4 run to take a commanding 96-87 lead with just under one minute remaining.
"They kicked the ball out well," said Anderson. "They found people open and made the shots. They came out and hit the open shots as well as the tough shots."
Ray Allen scored 17 points and Dell Curry added 13 off the bench for Milwaukee, which holds the sixth spot in the East. The Bucks, who have not made the playoffs since 1991, avenged Sunday's 98-74 loss to the Cavaliers and snapped a two-game skid.
Shawn Kemp had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Wesley Person scored 14 points for the Cavs, who had a three-game winning streak stopped.
The game, which featured 12 ties and 15 lead changes, seemed to swing in Cleveland's favor after Anderson's jumper gave Cleveland what appeared to be a safe five-point cushion.
Robinson hit a 12-footer and Allen sank a 3-pointer to forge an 83-83 tie with 4:25 left.
"Glenn and I had to step up and play big for the team tonight," Allen said. "We talked to each other and helped each other grow on the court. We know that we are counted on to make shots."
Brevin Knight, who had 10 points and five assists, gave Cleveland its final lead of the night, 85-83, on a layup with 4:02 remaining.
Allen made another 3-pointer and Robinson converted a three-point play with an acrobatic layup over Cedric Henderson to give the Bucks an 89-85 lead with 2:07 to play.
"This was a big game for us tonight," said Robinson. "It was nice to get a big victory at home. When Ray and I play well, everyone feeds off us. Coach loves for us to shoot (3-pointers). Tonight the basket looked pretty big to me."
Henderson, who scored 13 points, made a pair of free throws before Robinson sandwiched a 3-pointer and a pair from the stripe around a Vinny Del Negro layup to cap Milwaukee's spurt with 40 seconds remaining.
Robinson and Allen combined to go 6-of-8 from long range.
Andrew DeClercq scored 13 points and Anderson added 12 for the Cavs, who shot 47 percent (29-of-62) but surrendered 24 points off 18 turnovers.
"(Allen and Robinson) are two very competitive players," said DeClercq. "They shot the ball really well tonight."
Del Negro had 11 points and seven assists off the bench for the Bucks, who shot 57 percent (38-of-67). Both teams grabbed 30 rebounds.
