Game Story
BOSTON (Ticker) -- Dell Curry is having quite a week.
Coming off a season-high 18 points against his former team on
Wednesday, the 12-year veteran buried the go-ahead 3-pointer
with 43 seconds remaining tonight to lead the Milwaukee Bucks
past the Boston Celtics, 84-83.
Curry, one of the game's deadliest outside shooters, had his
best game of the season Wednesday against the Charlotte Hornets
and remained hot, making 7-of-12 shots.
Ray Allen scored 19 points and rookie Robert Traylor added 15
for the Bucks, who have won four straight games.
"Tonight we found a way to get it done," Allen said. "I'd rather
win this one ugly then lose this one any which way. This team
is still pretty young. Games like this help us have fun."
Antoine Walker led Boston with 23 points and tied a career high
with 18 rebounds but missed a potential game-winning tip in the
final seconds. The loss was fifth straight at home for Boston,
the longest such streak since losing six in a row during the
1996-97 season.
Rookie Paul Pierce scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds
for the Celtics, who have dropped eight of 10 overall and fell
to 10-20 on the season.
"We don't feel snakebit," Walker said. "We can't start feeling
down on ourselves because things are not going our way.
Obviously I thought that shot would go in but it didn't. That
is the way things are going for us now. This is still the kind
of team that can win 15 of its final 20 games and build for next
year."
The game was tied, 81-81, when Kenny Anderson grabbed a rebound
and drove for a layup with 61 seconds left. Glenn Robinson
batted away the ball a split-second late and was called for
goaltending.
Milwaukee set up its half-court offense and a crosscourt pass
ended up in the hands of defensive specialist Michael Curry.
Curry quickly tapped the ball back to Dell Curry, who drained
the 25-footer for an 84-83 lead.
"You sort of have to feel you are one of the best 3-point
shooters in the game, because that is how you get comfortable
when the game is on the line," Curry said. "Michael made a great
kick to me, I got a great look and just knocked it down."
Boston did not call timeout and Vitaly Potapenko had his
baseline jumper blocked by Robinson. With four seconds on the
shot clock, Anderson penetrated into the lane but was hammered
going to the basket. The loose ball popped right to Walker, who
saw his shot rim around and out.
Haywoode Workman, who was scoreless in 32 minutes, came up with
the loose ball and was fouled with 1.8 seconds left. Milwaukee
eventually inbounded the ball to Dell Curry, who dribbled out
the clock.
"As for that last play, we were just lucky it did not go in,"
said Bucks coach George Karl. "There were so many big plays in
the last five minutes, it's unbelievable. We have so much
confidence in our last-second plays that it is almost scary for
such a young team."
Boston held a 53-39 rebounding edge and made 11-of-12 foul shots
but committed 18 turnovers and shot just 39 percent (33-of-84)
from the field.
Milwaukee won despite making just 16-of-30 free throws.
