Game Story

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Grant Hill scored 28 points, including 10 in a pivotal fourth-quarter run, as the Detroit Pistons posted their fourth straight victory and ended the Atlanta Hawks' five-game winning streak with a 93-77 triumph.
The win moved the Pistons (18-12) one-half game behind the Hawks (19-12) in the Central Division and a season-high six games over the .500 mark.
Hill was spectacular in the second half. In addition to scoring at will over the final 12 minutes, he had five assists during an 18-8 burst early in the third quarter. He finished 10-of-17 from the field and keyed a 21-6 spurt that opened the final period.
"The way Grant played ... he controlled the game," said Pistons coach Alvin Gentry. "He's hurting, his ankle is hurting and he is all beaten up. But I just thought he did a great job of controlling the tempo."
"The first half was kind of boring and we were not great," Hill said. "In the second half the guys on our team just played good basketball, making the pass, attacking the basket, hitting our jump shots and playing good defense."
Lindsey Hunter scored 21 points and Christian Laettner added 12 against his former team as Detroit overcame a 44-38 rebounding disadvantage by committing just seven turnovers.
"Grant had a lot to do with it," said Laettner, who was 6-of-10 from the field and grabbed five rebounds in 21 minutes. "He had a great game. He had it rolling tonight. When a lot of things were not coming, he hit straight buckets or got penetration."
Steve Smith led Atlanta with 18 points. The Hawks, playing for the fourth time in five days, shot just 39 percent from the field (28-of-71) and 17-of-31 from the line.
"I felt good about our team," said Hawks coach Lenny Wilkens. "It was just tonight was a tough loss. We just ran out of gas. We were a little tired and they were the better team tonight."
The Hawks led 42-38 with 11:02 left in the third quarter when Hunter buried a 16-footer off a feed from Hill to ignite an 18-8 spurt. After Smith missed a 17-footer, Hill found Hunter for a 3-pointer that gave the Pistons the lead.
Hunter had eight points in the spurt and capped the run with a 3-pointer with 4:43 to go in the quarter.
The Pistons lead was 65-60 to start the fourth quarter when Hill found Laettner for a layup to open the scoring. Hill scored 10 points in the spurt, which was capped by two free throws by Jerome Williams with 4:29 to play.
Bison Dele had 10 rebounds for Detroit, which was 6-of-13 from 3-point range. Ed Gray came off the bench to score 10 points for Atlanta.
