Game Story

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Although the Philadelphia 76ers have been knocked down a peg or two, Samuel Dalembert continues to stand tall. Dalembert had 23 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks and led a fourth-quarter rally as the 76ers kept alive their playoff hopes with a 99-94 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Plagued by injuries and dissension, the 76ers (30-42) are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 1998. One of the few bright spots has been Dalembert, a 7-footer from Haiti who has become a dominant presence in the paint. Philadelphia trailed virtually the entire game and was in an 85-77 hole after a jumper by Phoenix's Shawn Marion with 5:14 to play. But Dalembert backstopped a defense that allowed just one basket the rest of the way. A block by Dalembert led to Eric Snow's three-point play. That came between 3-pointers by rookies Willie Green and Kyle Korver that gave the Sixers an 86-85 lead with 4:03 left. Four free throws by Snow extended the advantage to 92-87 with 2:02 remaining. Marion made a tough hook shot over Dalembert, who responded with a follow dunk on the other end at the 1:14 mark. The Sixers made 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute, when Dalembert and Snow teamed up to force a clinching turnover. Snow scored 19 points, Green added 18 and Kenny Thomas 17 for Philadelphia, which moved to 5-1 this month without Allen Iverson. The superstar guard again sat out with a sore knee.
