Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The LeBron James Bobblehead doll was in high demand in the Gund Arena stands. James the player was a hot commodity on the court, too. James scored 24 points, several on spectacular dunks and layups, and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 112-80 rout of the Atlanta Hawks. Zydrunas Ilgauskas collected 17 points and 10 rebounds and Carlos Boozer added 12 and 15 for the Cavaliers (25-36), who are one-half game behind Boston for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot. "We're now only a game and a half out of sixth and a half-game out of eighth," Cleveland coach Paul Silas said. "So if we continue this thing we have a chance to get there. That's what it's all about at this point, just playing some quality basketball and keep it rolling." The Cavaliers handed out Bobblehead dolls of James to the first 10,000 fans at the 17,614-capacity Gund Arena, which sold out for the eighth time this season. Some fans lined up as early as eight hours before the game to ensure they would receive a doll. "I love it. The fans love it," James said of the doll. "It was great. They came out, they got the Bobblehead and they got a great show." James had nine points and Boozer eight in the first quarter to help Cleveland open a 36-19 cushion after 12 minutes. The bulge was 63-41 at the break and the Cavaliers led by as many as 40 points in the fourth quarter. "Cleveland had a lot of bounce, a lot of energy," said Hawks coach Terry Stotts, whose team surprised the Los Angeles Lakers at home on Tuesday. "And it looked like we were a little spent." It was the Cavaliers' largest margin of victory since a 114-81 triumph over Minnesota on January 29, 2002. "I think a day off from practice (Tuesday) really did it," Silas said. "It helped the whole team a lot," James said. "You could see it out there - our energy level, how much we had because we had a day off yesterday. ... We were really tired at Chicago (a 92-81 loss on Monday)." Stephen Jackson scored 20 points to pace the Hawks, who shot just 34 percent (28-of-82) from the field en route to their seventh loss in 10 games. "We've been looking up at the scoreboard like that all year," Jackson said. "We still hate losing like that. We still are competitors and we still want to win and be in games and not get blown out like this." During the first quarter, James had a breathtaking move where he passed the ball behind his back and elevated for a dunk, which brought the fans to their feet. "The one behind the back, I had to look myself and say, 'My God, that was awesome,'" Silas said. "The kid's good. Future of the NBA - that's what they say, right?" Jackson said. "The kid can play. He's done a tremendous job with this team. They are on the verge of making the playoffs, so he has to be doing something right."
