Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Steve Nash hit an 18-footer with 12 seconds left as the Dallas Mavericks erased a 17-point first-half deficit and recorded their first road win over the Seattle SuperSonics in more than three years, 99-95.
With the score tied at 95-95, Nash took a feed from Dirk Nowitzki and swished a jumper from the right side that put Dallas ahead for good.
"Dirk found me and they overran the play," Nash explained. "I knew I wasn't going to get a better shot, so I got my balance and tried to stick it. That was a dream shot at that stage of the game."
Sonics guard Gary Payton had a chance to send the game to overtime but lost the ball on a drive to the basket and Michael Finley dunked with 2.4 seconds left to complete the Mavericks' spirited comeback.
"That's a crying shame to let that game get away," SuperSonics coach Paul Westphal said. "In that fourth quarter, the last six minutes, we just started turning the ball over, missing shots and they got hot. We let a nice effort get away."
While Nash drained the go-ahead basket, Dallas would not have been in position to win without fine performances by Nowitzki and Finley.
Nowitzki scored a season-high 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Finley collected 10 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter as Dallas won at KeyArena for the first time since November 1, 1997.
"It was a great ballgame. ... I don't really care about the points," Nowitzki said. "We won. It was a team effort."
Payton had 22 points and nine assists for Seattle, which lost for the third time in four games.
The Mavericks trailed 79-72 entering the fourth quarter and fell behind 88-78 on a dunk by Ruben Patterson with 7:07 to go.
Nowitzki scored seven points as part of a 15-4 run and Finley capped the spurt with a layup that gave Dallas a 93-92 edge with 2:15 left, its first lead since the opening minute of the second quarter.
Vin Baker put Seattle back on top with a three-point play, but Finley's 18-footer forged a 95-95 tie with 1:14 remaining.
Helped by two offensive rebounds, the Sonics had three chances to regain the lead but misfired on 3-pointers each time. Nowitzki snared the rebound and fired a pass to Nash, who spotted up and drained the winning basket.
"We got complacent, got away from some of the things that gave us the early lead and started settling for shots, and they got the momentum back," Seattle guard Brent Barry said. "You've got to give Dallas a lot of credit. Those guys did a great job and Dirk had a fantastic game."
Seattle used a 15-0 run in the middle of the second quarter to take a 51-34 lead with 4:11 left.
