GAME RECAP

Mitch Richmond tied a season high with 35 points as the Sacramento Kings took control in the second quarter and handed the Golden State Warriors their 11th straight home loss, 109-92.

Billy Owens scored 16 points and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf added 14 for the Kings, who won for only the second time in their last nine road contests. The Kings are just 5-20 away from home this season.

Donyell Marshall scored 19 points to lead Golden State, which dropped its seventh straight game overall. The Warriors' home skid is one shy of the club record, set over parts of two seasons from February 13th-October 15th, 1965. They have not won at home since an 87-75 win over the Denver Nuggets on December 23rd.

The Warriors, who own the second-worst record in the league, have dropped 21 of their last 22 games overall and are one of two teams in the league still in single digits in victories.

Sacramento held a 45-42 lead with 2:20 left in the first half before Richmond scored six points in an 11-4 burst that gave the Kings a 56-46 lead at intermission. Richmond finished with 12 points in the second quarter and 19 in the half.

The Warriors closed within 58-53 with 10:38 left in third, but Sacramento put the game out of reach with a 16-4 burst. Richmond, who had six points in the spurt, capped the run with a layup at the 5:43 mark which pushed the lead to 74-57.

Sacramento took its biggest lead of the game at 83-61 with 1:58 left in the third on two free throws from Richmond. Richmond scored 11 points in the quarter, helping the Kings to a 87-67 advantage entering the final quarter.

"Mitch really carried us again as usual," Sacramento coach Eddie Jordan said. "He has really gotten over worrying about the trade rumors and he really likes this team now."

Richmond, who also scored 35 points against Phoenix on January 12th, connected on 11-of-18 shots from the field. He also had seven rebounds and six assists.

"I've been reading the paper for a long time now, but I'm done doing that," said Richmond referring to season-long trade rumors. "I'm at peace with what I have to do on the court."

Erick Dampier added 15 points and 11 rebounds and Tony Delk scored 12 points and contributed a career-high 13 assists for the Warriors, who have lost their last five meetings against Sacramento.

"They killed us on penetration and cuts," Golden State coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "We had no defensive energy tonight. We never even came close to stopping them. For us to win games, we have to play good defense, control the boards and try to hang in there on offense. Their pressure was tough tonight."

The Kings shot 49 percent (45-of-92) from the field, compared with Golden State, which shot 44 percent (42-of-95). Golden State held a 51-45 rebounding edge.
