Apex Legends Season 2 – Can this do anything?

Several novelties have been announced for the second season of Apex Legends, which started in early July. Enough to fill the empty canyons and deserts again?

EA Games and Respawn seem to have heard the desperate cries of the last survivors of the Apex Legends community. After a very positive start a few months ago, the publishers used the enthusiasm for a well-controlled release to…. do nothing at all with their new game. This irrevocably divided the newly formed community into two groups: those who complained about the lack of new releases while they were still playing, and those who complained about the lack of new releases while they just stopped playing.

Yes, all those tweets announcing the end of Fortnite in favour of Apex Legends are now very, very far away. Almost as much as the ones sent by the staff to report record numbers. Besides, we haven’t heard about the numbers for a long time…. Coincidence?

Now even the last supporters of the Battle Royal had concluded that the publishers just let Apex Legends die slowly when they saw that their new baby only vaguely weakened Fortnite. For a few weeks now, EA Games and Respawn have been conducting a real rescue campaign for their Battle Royal, promising wonders and innovations that will whet your appetite: new character, a new weapon, new combat passport, some aesthetic elements, map redesign, dragons…. Exactly that.

The nickname of the youngest apex legend suggests that she’s apparently not anyone. Wattson actually played a role in the creation of Apex Legends – in terms of the story, I mean. As the daughter of an engineer responsible for the electrical installation of the games, she accompanied the creation of the arena, where many of us have already bitten the dust. Thanks to her passion for electricity, her Skills Kit has enough to give opponents a little juice when they get too close.

Wattson can set electric traps and thwart enemy attacks while rebuilding allied shields. A complete character at first glance that could spice up the compositions of the troops that have become far too classic since the release of Apex Legends.

And then there’s the L-Star, the weapon Bloodhound held on Apex Legends’ first home screen from the start. After what we saw when we announced it at E3 2019, the L-Star should be accessible, but will still be rare to find. What impact the L-Star will have on the metagame we’ll see in the arena, of course.

So dragons, but not only dragons.

So we agree: We had all these innovations on our wish list. And that’s what the community was hoping for: Change! Following the example of Epic Games with Fortnite, EA Games and Respawn invented a few incidents to redesign part of the map. A mysterious explosion devastated the landscape known to players and destroyed what looked like a tower. The security system collapses, and King’s Canyon is now visibly exposed to aggressive wildlife…. The Leviathane, the Mastodons, who were content to frame the cards when we started our games, now go to the playground and disturb the movements of the most ruthless players. Be careful where you step…

All this promises a darker and more dynamic second season with new elements that need to be considered in our games if we are to climb the ladder! The developers are announcing classified games to enhance the gaming experience of users who are not opposed to the idea of homogenizing the level of games through this ranking system. Let’s see how it works, but we remain optimistic.

The question now is whether it’s right to trust these innovations, or whether we should be careful with all these new developments. Because after so much change there could be another long time without updates and adjustments ahead of us… and so seal the fate of a game that hasn’t got an easy time anyway. What do you think?
